Job Description
Direct Counsel is representing a nationally recognized AmLaw 100 firm in its search for a senior-level Associate or Counsel (6–8 years of experience) to join the firm’s highly regarded Affordable Housing practice in Washington, D.C.
This team advises a broad client base—including for-profit and nonprofit developers, investors, and governmental agencies—on the acquisition, development, financing, operation, and preservation of affordable housing projects across the country.
Key Qualifications:6+ years of law firm experience focused on affordable housing transactions , including finance, development, and incentives
Experience handling LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) closings (4% and 9% transactions), refinancings, acquisitions, dispositions, and exits
Familiarity with all sides of the deal—developers, investors/syndicators, and lenders—is a plus
Hands-on experience with drafting, reviewing, and negotiating transaction documents , conducting due diligence, and overall deal/project management
J.D. from a nationally accredited law school with a strong academic record
Admission to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (Washington, D.C. preferred)
Ability to take lead on complex transactions and interact directly with sophisticated clients
Exceptional communication (written and verbal), organizational, and time-management skills
Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
Demonstrated ability to manage deadlines and handle multiple projects concurrently
This role is based in Washington, D.C.
Hybrid work arrangements available in line with firm policy
Annual Salary Range: $345,000 – $385,000 (commensurate with experience, skills, and location)
Bonus: Performance- and hours-based bonus structure
