Job Details

• Under the supervision of a nurse leader, independently prescribes, delegates and coordinates nursing care to acutely ill patients.
• Performs nursing process through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of safe, therapeutic care.
• Scope of practice in accordance with ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, ANA Code of Ethics, and California Nurse Practice Act.
• Creates and sustains an environment supporting compassionate caring with patients and families.
• Collects and documents data for assigned patients according to prescribed methods.
• Interprets assessment data to determine physiological and/or psychosocial risk factors and reports variances.
• Collaborates with patient, family, and healthcare team to develop individualized plan of care.
• Implements nursing and physician orders safely.
• Prioritizes nursing actions using education, experience, and assessment data.
• Establishes nursing diagnoses and formulates written plan of care; evaluates and revises as necessary.
• Manages rapidly changing situations and activates emergency protocols as needed.
• Performs and documents nursing process using critical thinking and nursing judgment.
• Coordinates patient care activities with nurses, physicians, and Advanced Practice Providers.
• Collaborates effectively within the care team.
• Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards and evidence-based practices.
• Provides safe care adhering to infection control policies, medication administration, and controlled substance regulations.
• Participates in staff meetings, professional governance councils, and nursing recognition activities.
• Completes all competencies, mandatory classes, and educational coursework required by the Department of Nursing.
• Maintains knowledge and competence reflecting current nursing practice.
• Adheres to hospital-approved policies and RN scope of practice as defined by BRN licensure.
• Complies with ANA Code of Ethics, ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and KMC Professional Practice Model.
• Monitors own and others' practices related to patient and employee safety and compliance.
• Demonstrates clinical knowledge and skill in care of populations served by Kern Medical facilities.

Job Requirements

• 3 years of nursing experience required.
• Valid and unrestricted State of California Registered Nurse License (RN License) required.
• Possess and maintain current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider: Basic Life Support (BLS) card.
• Employees must maintain all health requirements designated by Kern Medical Center.
• May be required to possess and maintain specific certificates of competency depending on assignment.
• Knowledge of advanced nursing theory, techniques, medical terminology, instruments, equipment, and medication effects required.

Schedule Information

• Contract length is 13 weeks.

Additional Details

• Preferred experience in Medical-Surgical or Emergency Room settings.
