Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.:

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Have proven experience as a dispatcher or relevant position.
• Knowledge of computers and related equipment, hardware and software for researching, retrieving, and maintaining a variety of informational and tracking databases.
• Current Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunicator License by the State of Texas and TCOLE Telecommunicator License or ability to obtain within (1) year of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associates Degree or higher.
• Previous work experience in emergency dispatch.
• Knowledge of police emergency response practices and procedures.
• Knowledge of TCIC/NCIC and TLETS/NLETS rules, regulations, and requirements.
• Knowledge of methods, practices, and procedures for responding to and dispatching emergency services utilizing computer aided dispatch system.
• Knowledge of University policies and procedures, Police Department General Orders, and Communications Standard Operating Procedures.
• Knowledge of emergency medical dispatching.

Job Description:

Texas State University (TXST) Police Department (UPD) is looking for individuals who are motivated to help others and be a part of the UPD Team. Everyday our UPD Dispatchers assist students, faculty, staff and the community to ensure safety for everyone. Job Duties:

• Answers emergency and non-emergency calls from the public and routes calls to other public safety agency dispatchers as needed.
• Evaluate emergency situations and prioritize emergency dispatch according to the severity and urgency of the situation.
• Dispatch appropriate emergency services to the scene, including police, fire, and medical services.
• Provide critical information to emergency response personnel and update them on situation changes as necessary.
• Provide immediate over-the-phone instructions for emergency medical situations, such as CPR.
• Document all call information, including time of call, nature of emergency, and actions taken, into computer systems for record-keeping purposes.
• Keep callers calm and collected during emergency situations and provide reassurance until help arrives.
• Responds to requests for information regarding CAD incident numbers, case numbers, arrival times, citizen addresses and other Public Safety Communications information.
• Research law enforcement databases to verify information on individuals, such as drivers license validity, existence of protective orders, missing person stolen/recovered vehicle, warrants, vehicle registration and criminal history.
• Maintain public safety responder location and en route status logs.
• Operate a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, an NCIC/TCIC console, and an interoperable radio console.
• Monitor multi-system communication devices and surveillance systems simultaneously.
• Undergo regular training to stay updated on emergency procedures and protocols.
• Performs related duties as required.

Additional Information to Applicants:

• Must turn in a personal history statement and be able to pass a full background.
• Must pass psychological exam and drug screening (as part of conditional job offer).
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.
• Must secure and maintain access to TLETS.
• Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays.
