Description
The Town of Andover seeks a highly motivated Greater Lawrence Technical School (GLTS) student to serve as a Co-Op Intern within the Department of Public Works. This temporary, part-time internship is designed to support general office operations and provide hands-on experience in municipal administration, customer service, and data systems. This position is ideal for a student interested in public service, office management, or municipal operations.

Responsibilities

• Provide front-line customer service to residents and contractors via phone, email, and in-person inquiries.
• Assist with receiving and logging service requests and complaints using the Town's tracking system.
• Perform basic clerical duties including scanning, filing, copying, and document preparation.
• Enter and update data in databases, spreadsheets, and permit management software.
• Assist with processing work orders, purchase orders, and time sheets as directed.
• Support seasonal projects such as mailings, permit renewals, inventory, and data audits.
• Provide general administrative support to DPW staff, including the Office Manager, Division Supervisors, and Engineering team.
• Focused on GIS systems, capturing, managing, and analyzing data.
• Maintain a professional and helpful presence in a fast-paced municipal office.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled at Greater Lawrence Technical School and approved for co-op placement.
• Interest in public administration, business, construction/trades, or technical services.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to follow instructions, manage time effectively, and communicate clearly.
• Comfortable learning new systems and engaging with the public in a courteous and respectful manner.

Supplemental Information

• Hours and schedule determined in partnership with GLTS Co-Op Coordinator.
• This is a temporary, part-time internship position.
• The position is paid at an hourly rate of $15.00 per hour.
• Located at the Town Offices, 36 Bartlet Street, Andover, MA, with primary assignment in the DPW Office.
