Job Description

An opportunity exists for a dedicated professional to serve as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) within an educational setting. This role is crucial in providing students with the skills and confidence needed to navigate their environments safely and independently. The position is located in Laurel, MD, and spans a 10-month schedule, aligning with the K-12 school year.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Maryland Orientation and Mobility Specialist Certificate for K-12
  • Active Maryland drivers license
  • Proven experience working with students, particularly in a school setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop individualized mobility plans

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments to determine students' orientation and mobility needs
  • Create and implement individualized mobility training programs
  • Provide direct instruction and support to students in community navigation
  • Collaborate with educators, parents, and other specialists to enhance students' independence
  • Maintain accurate documentation of services provided and student progress
