Job Description



Wor-Wic Community College is accepting applications for a part-time Pre-K Instructional Assistant. This position assists the Pre-K Teachers or other professionals in the Jordan Center by working closely with students in small groups to achieve instructional objectives. This position is considered a mandatory reporter for the Department of Human Services. This position does not include benefits. This position works 25 hours per week. Days and hours of work are Mon. - Fri., 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.



Essential Duties

  • Works with students in small groups on a specific concept/skill according to the students' skill level; assists with large group activities, field trips and other special programs/activities for students; works with individuals or small groups to reinforce material introduced by the teacher; and provides programmed practice activities and repetitions as developed by the teacher

  • Guides independent study and other work assigned by the teacher

  • Reinforces appropriate behavior by following classroom teacher/case manager expectations and student's behavior plan (if applicable); reports student behaviors and problems to the instructor and assists with student matters

  • Assists with breakfast, lunch, snack, cleanup, clothing, personal hygiene and toilet training

  • Performs other duties as assigned

 



Minimum Requirements





  • High school diploma

  • Two years of experience in a Pre-K classroom

  • Excellent organizational, self-starter, human relations and verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, students, parents and associates

  • Ability to use classroom and instructional equipment

  • Ability to complete six clock hours per year of continuing education

  • Preference will be given to applicants with an associate degree in early childhood education or another relevant field

  • Must be at least 19 years old

  • Must successfully complete criminal and child protective services background checks

  • Must have current infant and child CPR and first aid certifications

  • Must provide a pre-employment medical report and receive approval from the Maryland Department of Education Office of Child Care

 



Supplemental Information




This part-time 10-month position is grant-funded, non-standard and follows the Wicomico County Public Schools Calendar. This position does not include benefits. This position works 25 hours per week. Days and hours of work are Mon. - Fri., 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. The starting hourly rate for this position will likely range from $20.82 to $25.51 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.
