The X-Ray Technician is a trained medical professional performing radiological duties in compliance with regulatory and departmental requirements. The duties of the X-ray Technician vary from setting to setting, depending on the size, location and type. The X-ray Technician will perform radiographic exams, ordered by the physician, that are technically satisfactory, properly positioned and processed adequately. All exams must be performed using the ALARA principle to minimize radiation dose to the patient. Essential job duties include positioning patients under X-ray machines, adjusting immobilization devices, providing radiation protection, regulating exposure switches, assisting physicians with procedures such as EKGs, phlebotomy, and injections, preparing reports, maintaining radiological film files and logs, maintaining supplies and equipment, practicing OSHA safety standards, and performing accurate, legal, and ethical documentation. The role requires excellent communication skills, empathy, collaboration with healthcare team members, problem-solving mindset, knowledge of medical products and procedures, IT skills, attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations. Some local travel may be required to cover multiple centers. Education and experience criteria include graduation from an accredited Radiological Technology or Basic X-Ray Machine Operator program, preferred Medical Assistant program graduation, minimum 1 year of x-ray technologist experience (2 years preferred), licensing/certification as required by state, preferred EMR system experience, and Basic Life Support certification within 90 days of employment.
